Our wildly popular weeklong MTB camps gather 8-13-year-old riders from across the Greater Puget Sound area for days packed with adventure and fun.
Join Evergreen staff, instructors, and coaches at any of our three locations: Duthie Hill, Black Diamond Open Space, or Swan Creek. If your rider is more experienced, we’re offering an Advanced Dirt Camp in August—sign up today to reserve your spot.
Whatever your location, age, or level, we’re ready to show our camp participants an epic time—and build some solid skills.

• January 12th- “Before Drones I was Tied to the Earth” By John Gussman  Techniques and etiquette for using drones to enhance the art form of photographic travel documentary by the photo documentarian of "Return of the River" and recent North Olympic Land Trust productions.
• January 19^th - “ Crop Circles: The Ongoing Enigma” by Mark Schrader  Mark will give an overview of the many facets of interest found in these wonderful unsolved puzzles. His 6 visits to Southwest England over the last 10 years will provide a photographic record to accompany his learning from on site workshops, lecture series and over flights.
• January 26^th – “Yellowstone, the Grand Tetons, and Alberta” Elston & Jackie Hill  Minus 53 degrees. Icicle clad bison, wolves, few tourists, cheaper lodging. Join long time presenters for tips on gear, planning and their signature awesome photos.

• February 1st - "Traveling in North Korea as a Party of Two" by Elston Hill. He will share his travels to a country not travelled by many Americans, North Korea. Get an inside look of a country that has been closed off from the rest of the world for many years. Probably your only chance to hear about places and people they encountered on this trip.

• February 8th - “Arctic, to the Antarctic” By Mark Roye & Nancy Krill.
  They sailed in the wake of the Pacific Northwest Maritime Fur Trade. Sailing their ketch Tamara from Hudson Strait to Alaska. The couple was awarded the Cruising Club of America's Charles H. Vilas Prize for 2011 and the Royal Cruising Club Trophy for 2012.

• February 15th - “Klee Wyck Journal: The Making of a Wilderness Retreat” By Lou McKee, adventurer artist, author and dreamer. Tells her story of paddling the waterways of the Pacific Northwest and by chance discovering an enchanting beach. Where the Klee Wyck Cabin was borne.

• February 22nd - “On Safari in Botswana and Tanzania” By Burt Jones & Maurine Shimlock, award-winning photojournalists. Who usually document tropical marine life and remote dive sites. Will share a different kind of adventure, with their love of adventure and photography we will take a trip to Botswana and Tanzania.

• March 1st - “Border to Border 3 Friends: A Cycling Adventure” By Leilani Sundt, flight attendant and active cyclist tells of completing the journey from Canada to Mexico by way of bike. The trip was postponed for 2 years while Lelani recovered from injuries  suffered by being hit by a truck after only 10 days into the trip in 2015.

• March 8th - “Kayaking: Exploring Taiwan” By Nigel Foster, one of the best known kayakers in the world, will tell us of his kayaking adventures in Taiwan's beautiful and timeless islands. Nigel keeps busy as an author, designers of kayaks, paddles and accessories while he is not kayaking somewhere around the world.

• March 15th - “Scotland, North Coast 500” By Tim & Mardi Guthrie. Tim's 20 years of military service allowed them many travels throughout Europe. Joining kids and church mission allowed them to travel to many other parts of the world. This trip brings Tim home to his Scottish roots and the North Coast 500, a little known part of Scotland not to be missed.

• March 22nd - “Iceland: Land of Extremes” By Arvo & Christiane Johnson. This adventure takes them to the incredible Island of Iceland. A land of many sights and few crowds. This journey will be new one for them in more ways then one, having 2 young kids along their side.

Monday night ride

The Monday night Women's Trail ride will take a break for the winter season.  

With many factors to play, including and not limited to weather, darkness and regular attendance, we will not meet for our normal Monday night rides. 

The regular group riders may be riding, but our formal ride will begin again in March! The Thursday night ride continues as usual and all are welcome.  6pm start. 

Here's to a happy winter... including some time for rest... or daylight riding...

Olympic Discovery Trail petition

  The Peninsula Trails Coalition on the Olympic Peninsula in Washington State is gathering signatures on a petition to be submitted to the WA State Parks Commission to encourage them to give a #1 priority to the development of the Olympic Discovery Trail (ODT) and the Pacific NW National Scenic Trail (PNNST) through Anderson Lake Park here in west Jefferson County.  Such a high ranking among all State Parks projects will virtually guarantee funding for the project when the Commission applies to the State Legislature for their 2019 - 2021 biennium budget.

  We have now gathered over two hundred individual signatures and approximately two dozen signatures from local businesses, organizations, and agencies representing thousands more north Olympic Peninsula residents.

  The development of the ODT through Anderson Lake Park (mostly on already existing Park trails) would become a segment of the ODT and the PNNST over the Eaglemount area, bypassing the very dangerous State Highway 20, and connecting the current end of the Larry Scott Memorial Trail originating in Port Townsend to the segment of the ODT recently completed at the southern end of Discovery Bay.

  Finally there is, as always, the issue of funding of a project such as this.  The last state budget allocated $1,000,000 for the County to hire a consultant to determine the optimal route, acquire the properties needed on that route, and do some initial design work.  Additional grants will eventually be needed for construction, but that could be 2+ years off.  However, State Parks personnel have explained to us that grant matching donations are very important in persuading the Parks Commission to give priority status to a project.  We are not asking for matching fund donations at this time.  However, if you wish, you may make a donation to the PTC here:

Trail Work Party this Saturday 9am to noon

Volunteer Trail Work Party

Saturday, November 18th from 9 am to Noon

An upcoming volunteer work party will focus on the maintenance of City trails near 35th Street Park to fill low spots, resurfacing the trail along the 33rd Street corridor near Hancock Street. This pathway is an important connector to the trail system in the 35th Street Park area. Port Townsend Trail Crew volunteers will haul and spread gravel at low spots to keep this trail above water during the winter rainy season.

Please meet trail crew volunteers at Hancock and 32nd Streets at 9 am on November 18th, where the gravel pile will be located. Parking is available along the paved residential roads - the easiest access is to follow Hancock Street north from Hastings Avenue about 4 blocks to 32nd Street (see map attached). 

Please bring: wheelbarrows, shovels and rakes (for moving & spreading gravel), pruners & loppers (for overgrown vegetation)

Be sure to wear sturdy work boots and gloves, and dress for the weather – rain or shine, the trail work will get done! Snacks will be provided afterwards.

Biketoberfest and Port Gamble trails

The Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance (EMBA) West Sound is proudly hosting their 5th Annual Biketoberfest over the Sept. 29-30 weekend at Port Gamble. Everyone is invited to come and participate or just watch this family oriented mountain biking event. Activities include night rides, barrel races, XC races, poker run and a kid's track. Ongoing Fall Timber Harvesting
in Port Gamble Heritage Park

In accordance with the purchase agreement, Pope Resources expects to be harvesting 80 acres adjacent on the north end of the Port Gamble Heritage Park, from late September of 2017 though January of 2018. Closed areas will be delineated in the field. During this time, the harvest area, trails, and roads internal to the harvest area will be closed to public access. This includes the following trails; Hope, E.T., and portions of Ewok and Ranger. Roads accessing the area will remain open, but you should be alert for log truck and other vehicle traffic. These closures must be respected for both the contractor's and the public's safety. Willful violations of the closures will be reported to law enforcement.
Allowing Pope to harvest trees over the next 25 years was a tradeoff that allowed Kitsap County to expand the land acquisition by over 1000 additional acres that could not have been purchased if the trees were included with the land. Put another way, the purchase of all trees on the 1360 acres would have cost an additional $9 million of so. No trees will be harvested from the initial 535-acre purchase and Pope will replant harvested areas with a diverse mix of native trees after the work is done.

As the beautiful summer season comes to a close, our hours shorten for the winter season. Starting October 1st we will be:

Monday through Saturday  10am to 6pm
Sunday 11am to 4pm


And waaaay into November, we'll be closed the week leading up to Thanksgiving day. November 19 to 23, 2017.

American Lung Association’s Inaugural Reach The Beach Washington Cycling Event Raises Funds for Lung Disease Research, Educational Programs, and Advocacy

A Great New Ride on September 30, 2017 with Routes from Lacey, Olympia, Elma and Cosmopolis to the Coast

Seattle, WA (August 29, 2017) – Flat and fast; a cyclist’s dream course! The American Lung Association announces the inaugural “Reach the Beach” Washington ride on September 30, 2017. The course will take riders through the gorgeous countryside of Lacey - 102 miles, Olympia - 81 miles, Elma – 44 miles, and Cosmopolis - 25 miles, leading along the scenic oceanfront to the finish line celebration in Westport. Because of the distance options, Reach the Beach is ideal for serious cyclists, recreational cyclists and families.

Many cyclists will be riding in honor or memory of those whose lives have been touched by lung disease, COPD and asthma. Reach the Beach Washington is more than just a fundraiser. The event will bring people and communities together from across the Pacific Northwest.

Reach The Beach Washington is modeled after the successful annual Reach The Beach Oregon, which raised more than $750,000 this past year for lung disease research. “The ride in Oregon is known as the best supported ride in the Northwest and I can’t wait to bring this same level of cycling to Washington,” said Season Oltman, Executive Director for the American Lung Association in Washington. “There are many wonderful elements that make Reach the Beach so well known. The beautiful route, the multiple distance options, the party at the finish line, but we are best known for the high level of support we provide the riders.”

The ride will have mechanics at all 4 start locations and 4 additional rest stops along the route along with on course ride-along mechanics, SAG vehicles, medical support and a well-marked course. There will also be 2 full lunch stops and a delicious dinner at the finish line, in addition to electrolytes, water and other snacks throughout the course. 

The registration fee is $45 after that. Riders must also fundraise or donate an additional $125 to ride. This year, those who raise $150 will receive a long-sleeved Reach the Beach shirt, those who raise $300 will get an official Reach the Beach cycling jersey and those that raise $550 will receive an official Reach The Beach cycling jacket. Participants who raise $3,000 or more will receive a free 2018 Reach the Beach Oregon pass and hotel room. Because of the variety of distance options, Reach the Beach is for serious cyclists as well as recreational ones, including families. For more information visit www.reachthebeachwa.org
