WSDOT starts seismic retrofit of old railroad bridge on SR 20 near Port Townsend |
The old railroad bridge on State Route 20 just outside Port Townsend city limits is undergoing a seismic retrofit the week of Jan. 14-18.Traffic is controlled by flaggers for materials and equipment to access the site, but only short-term stoppages are anticipated, according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. Work hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. The bridge spanned what until 1984 was an operating Milwaukee Road railroad line. That section of right-of-way is now the Larry Scott Trail. Meanwhile, work continues on the SR 104 Hood Canal Bridge shoulder retrofit project. Concrete infill is being added to the shoulders of the bridge deck, and existing steel plates removed. Traffic is shifted to the bridge's north side to allow a work area on the south side, according to the WSDOT. |
